Automatic layouts pack toward the top-left. Manual adjustments can change offcut positions; saw kerf remains between cuts. Each board is filled with individual pieces that fit before opening another board. Part order does not matter, and copies of a part can be split across sheets. Layouts use straight guillotine cuts and account for saw kerf. The optimizer compares multiple part orders and stock sizes, prioritizes placing all requested parts, then selects the layout using the least stock area. It finds the best layout searched; a global optimum is not guaranteed.
